The problem

To expand their presence and further develop business in China, a large international pharmaceutical company was looking to acquire a company in China. Although a target company had already been selected and tracked by the pharmaceutical, a deeper analysis, as well as alternative acquisition options were needed should the selected option fall through.

Asia Direct was commissioned to conduct due-diligence on the main targeted company, while at the same time researching and selecting potential alternates.

Asia Direct’s team spent over three months investigating the selected target company through comprehensive research, personal interviews and financial statements. Based on our findings, we recommended that our client not pursue the acquisition and look for other targets.

Asia Direct then surveyed almost 1,000 companies and in order to build a comprehensive database of companies operating in this industry. With clear parameters and requirements, Asia Direct screened and selected 20 potential acquisitions. To further narrow the field, Asia Direct managed several road shows for our client to visit our prescreened list of candidates.

After our client was satisfied with a few final target acquisitions, Asia Direct led negotiations and facilitated communications, bridging cultural differences and significantly improving the efficiency of M&A procedures.
